Region D Boys Basketball Regular Season Review

As a spectator, I am looking forward to the boys basketball regional tournament this year.

I am not sure what the matchups will be like until all the district tournaments are over.

In my opinion.. the region tournament is up for grabs.

The top two teams that I believe have the best shot at winning the tournament this year would have to be Virginia High and Gate City. If both of these teams were to be seeded on the same side of the bracket... then I feel the one who comes out on top will have the best chance of winning the Region D Tournament.

The next closest competitors to winning the Region D Tournament would have to be Union and Lebanon. If one or both of Gate City and Virginia High were to be upset in the tournament... look for these teams to be the front runner to win the Region D Tournament if they are still alive.

Adding on to that.... if both Gate City and Virginia High are knocked out of the tournament, I do not see any team from Region D being able to win against the competition from any of the other regions in the state. Group A is pretty strong this year when you go on up the I-81.

Region D Girls Basketball Regular Season Review

As a spectator, I only have this declaration to make after watching girls basketball in the region this year.

It doesnt matter how the tournaments turn out or anything. Here is the truth.

The Region D Championship is the Central Lady Warrior's championship to lose.

This is a team that lost to a powerhouse Science Hill team by 11 in their last meeting and have been playing 200 percent better since losing three of their players.

If you want to know how much better Central is compared to the rest of the region..... compare it to this.....

Central is a trillion seconds times better than the rest of the region is in girls basketball and are the only team in Region D with a legitmate shot at beating the #1 team in the state in Floyd County.. and winning the state championship. Whoever is the Region D Runnerup this year from Division 2... better hold on for the ride because I expect the runnerup to be defeated by no less than 30 points to the team I believe will win Region C and that is Floyd County.

To give you an idea of how much better a trillion seconds would be..........

A million seconds is 12 days.
A billion seconds is 31 years.
A trillion seconds is 31,688 years.

This means that Central is .......... well........... really good.

If two teams from Region C and Region D were planets and the state championship would the sun..........
Central and Floyd County would be Mercury and the rest of Region C and Region D would be Pluto..........which isnt a planet anymore....and whatever else is out there floating around. Yes... these teams are that good.

Now as for the other distant teams.

The Black Diamond, in terms of talent, is a solar system that hasnt even been discovered yet they are so far behind. Central probably has a 6th grade travel team that could defeat any team in this district.

The next worst would be the Clinch Mountain. Yes they have the largest schools in the region... they also have the worst largest collection of teams in the region. When your top four teams are Division 2 schools and they all barely beat each other and each has a chance to win the district ........and all four would be destroyed by Central......... yeah... you're terrible.

The second best district in the region would be the Cumberland...

People can say Eastside isnt very good but they are good compared to the rest of the region. There are some athletes on this squad. This team is also getting hot right now.... so just to let you know... you heard it here.... dont sleep on the Lady Spartans... they are the second best team in the region right now...IMO. All of my seedings for GC and Virginia High being 2nd and 3rd were just for what I know people would say simply because of them finishing tied.... and because I know they would rank Eastside lower because their playoff was with Castlewood. Up here in the Coeburn, Wise area........ everyone knows who has the best girls basketball in the region. And its not the Clinch Mountain or the Black Diamond.

Actually the best girls "district" is the clinch mountain the best "team" is from the lpd. The lpd has 1 quality team, the cmd has 4.

Folks are making Floyd Co out to be a juggernaut this year,but I have some good friends in Floyd who are telling me that they are not as strong as some previous Lady Buff teams,and that they are benefitting from some down competition. 23-1 East Rockingham may very well be the team to beat upstate and not so much FC

The Cumberland was pretty down in ladies basketball this year. Cwood and Eastside have decent teams, but not outstanding. Ervinton lost everything from last year. RC is way down along with TS and TW also.
